3 Golden Rules for Writing Website Content

Marketing, Website | Daryl Driedger

Golden Rules of website content - Website Design Leamington

Do you ever notice how some website content just jumps right out at you when you visit a site? You visit a site and instantly feel like you want what they are offering?

How do you create that feeling for your visitors?

You have to relate to the person you are trying to target with your website copy content. You might not be able to do that with everyone you want to target, but you can create a “bulk” portion that reaches a larger audience.

What makes you relate to the website text that you read? Is it some personal emotion or situation that the web development team is describing? Maybe it is both? The point is it touches you in some way. That is why it sells. Your website copy has to be more than just a digital brochure. You can go anywhere online and find that. Your website is the door people open to get inside your company in Leamington.

The basic yet crucial element that is consistent with all digital marketing is content. The platform of communication varies but usually starts with a website.

Many of you might wonder why your website is not generating leads. There are many possibilities, like bad website design, poor calls to action or a poorly functioning website, but the primary issues is usually website content. The error in most cases lies with using poor or unclear text to communicate exactly what your company does, sells or offers.

What can you do?

Marketers provide avenues to generate traffic, website designers provide quality design that builds trust, but your job is to evaluate if your website content conveys what your business does?; The problems you solve forĀ  your customers and how customers can get a hold of you/your company and buy from you?

These are the three most important parts of your website content, I will say them again:

State clearly, what you do. Identify your customers problem and provide a solution to that problem. What problem do you solve for people? And ask for the sale, provide a way for your website visitors to contact you.

In order to get leads you need to be clear and concise with your website content.

By crafting website content that follows these golden rules, you can help catch attention and generate leads from your website:

  • Clarify your message – keep it simple.
  • Create a website content that builds trust.
  • Have a sales funnel

Clarify Your Message

Clarity is important! Whether providing instructions, making an offer or writing a proposal. Your words must convey exactly what you intend to communicate without confusion.

According to studies, one of the biggest reasons why potential customers don’t buy is because they are confused. Any website content that causes confusion is a negative force against your website. Due to the huge amount and variety of content, our brains fail to comprehend all of the messages. The brain has a natural mechanism for retaining focus and causes us to skim through most content. If you want to cut through the noise, your website content must be clear and simple.

Create a Website that Builds Trust

Content is one aspect that causes people to buy, your photos, video and design content must also be professional. Quality website content, beautiful photos and effects help to make your website stand out. Crafting a clear message and having a beautiful design facilitates easy navigation for customers. At the end of the day, customers want to think as little as possible and want to know what is in it for them.

Build a Sales Funnel

A properly created sales funnel will help generate leads. When the content is on, and the website design is good people will be interested. However they may not buy right away. For this reason you need to have a secondary call to action. This is an action where a user provides their email in exchange for a valuable piece of content. You are then able to use email marketing to reach out to customers regularly. We have all done it, you are probably part of many peoples email lists already.

This continuous offering of information, through email establishes a healthy relationship with your list. In this way you set the stage for business growth. This means the customers have put their trust in your company and possibly work with you in the future.

Over all your website content needs to be simple, direct visitors to the areas of your site that are important for you and valuable for them. If you can solve their problems, you will have success.
