Why Video Should Be Your Next Marketing Tool
If a picture is worth 1000 words, then one minute of video is worth 1.8 million!
I don’t know about you but I don’t always have time to read 1000 words, let alone 1.8 million words and my ability to do so in only one minute would be impossible. We live in a fast-paced world of instant gratification. We have the ability to order pretty much anything online and have it shipped to our door the next day, even our food!
Our attention spans are shorter than they were even a few years ago and this means if we want to reach our customers and be seen, we need to find a way to stand out from the crowd. How do we do this? With VIDEO and branding. Facts tell but stories sell.
I say this all the time but here it is again:
People tend to SELL TECHNICALLY, but as humans, we are wired to BUY EMOTIONALLY. VIDEO allows us to touch on more than just one of the senses (sight and sound, visual and auditory). Video allows you to tell a story in a way that connects with people on an emotional level. It’s the closest thing to being there in person and can sometimes be even more impactful.
I enjoy public speaking and find there is nothing quite like being in a room with people where they can truly feel your energy and the sincerity of the emotions behind your words. However, when I am speaking, there is a lot of pressure on little old me since I don’t come hard-wired with inspirational background music and the ability to move in slow motion or high speeds simultaneously. Videos allow you to be able to tell several aspects of your story all at once, in a way that people can absorb and process quickly.
Here’s a statistic for you:
Viewers retain 95% of the message when watching the video, compared to 10% when reading only text (source: Insivia). Scientists say our brains process visuals almost 60,000 times faster than words. This could explain why video consumption online has risen by 100% year over year.
Ok, so you’re excited about adding video to your marketing plan now but wondering how to tell your brand story? Or are you wondering if you even have a story to tell? Let me assure you that you have a brand message or story. You probably just haven’t given it enough thought OR you’re completely over-thinking it 😉
Here are a few questions to ask yourself to determine your brand story:
- Who is your ideal customer/client?
- What problem do you solve for them?
- What sets you apart from the competition?
Once you’ve figured out these three things you have your message. (See my recent blog to dive deeper: Top 5 things to consider when
creating your marketing content) Now you need to add in your introduction, which is your brand story. This is the emotional connection. Your WHY. This is the piece that will reach people on a deeper level and will actually get them to convert.
What is your WHY?
Why do you do what you do? Focus on the why, not the what. What CONVERTED YOU? What made you decide to go into your line of work or start the business you are now promoting? Focus on your values, what drives you and what you find most satisfying in your business. People want to feel valued and they will feel that way when they know that you care. Once you figure out your brand story, you can now create your video and get it out to the world!
So now you’re wondering. How do I possibly film a video myself and make it engaging? Well, if the thought of that brings you anxiety, this might be the time when you call in a professional. That’s what we’re here for! Our passion is to help you tell your story and get it out to the people who need to know. The great thing about video too is that you can use it on multiple platforms: website, social media, YouTube, email marketing. Another reason it’s definitely worth it is to invest in professional quality content.
